Original Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone CO. of DC office, became Bell Atlantic and now Verizon Washington DC.

WASHINGTON DC "GEORGETOWN"

 

Serves the Georgetown area.  Still has classic Bell logo on outside wall.

C&P Telephone company of DC then Bell Atlantic now Verizon Washington DC.  Complex is made up of 3 buildings.  First one on the left was the original C&P office from the 1920s.  Middle building is an addition from ~1950's while the attached building further right is reminiscence of a ~1970s addition.

WASHINGTON DC "SOUTHWEST"

 

The big one.  This is the Tandem office for the Washington DC area and the AT&T toll switch.  During the direct distance dialing transition in the early 1950's, Washington DC was one of the first offices to be placed in the network with the addition of a #A4A switching machine in September of 1950.  Coax cable connected the office to Richmond and Baltimore.  #4ESS was added in 1978.  This office was a sectional center with direct trunks to the Baltimore primary and Pittsburg Regional office.
