Phoenix is one of the fastest growing regions in the United States.  Telephone service was initially provided by Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company which became Mountain Bell.  In 1984 after the divestiture, US West took over the assets of Mountain Bell, then became Qwest in 2000.
